God’s Pantry Food Bank says it’s “not directly affected” by USDA funding cuts

Jonese Franklin

A central Kentucky food pantry says it’s “not immediately affected” by cuts to USDA food purchases.

That comes as the federal agency is cutting this year’s funding for its Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program. The program helps send local produce to food pantries nationwide.

God’s Pantry Food Bank is one of the largest in central Kentucky. A statement from the bank says they get funding from “earlier programs” and are not directly affected by the funding recall. Those programs run through August.

More than $1 billion worth of federal spending has been halted by cutting certain USDA programs. That also includes another program that delivers produce to public schools.

It also comes amid reports from Politico and CNN that the USDA has halted deliveries to food banks in other states like California.
