Middle and High Schools students from the Berea Independent School System staged a walkout Wednesday. They are upset over changes coming to the school due to budget cuts.
Students gathered in front of the Berea Independent Board of Education to make their voices heard about cuts coming to the school.
Earlier in the week, during a school board meeting, officials discussed several positions that will be cut from the system.
Those cuts include, 10 district positions, 10 elementary school positions, 5.5 middle school positions, and 8.5 high school positions. Some of those eliminated positions include a school social worker, special education personnel and a behavioral specialist.
During the meeting, school superintendent Diane Hatchett gave a presentation, where she said the system drastically overspent their funds.
Hatchett says that she is retiring at the end of this year.
