FEMA sends crews to eastern Kentucky neighborhoods to assist flood recovery

FEMA.gov

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, has sent crews to neighborhoods in 14 eastern Kentucky counties to help with flood recovery.

That includes Breathitt, Clay, Estill, Floyd, Harlan, Johnson, Knott, Lee, Letcher, Martin, Owsley, Perry, Pike and Simpson counties.

They’re currently working to identify the needs of those neighborhoods. That includes immediate needs, status updates for disaster relief applications and help reaching out to other resources.

FEMA says their crews always wear identification, and never ask for or accept money. The organization says those affected by potential scams should contact local authorities or the Attorney General’s office.

Eleven disaster recovery centers are throughout the eastern Kentucky region to help those affected apply for FEMA assistance. Those affected can also apply online, by calling 800-621-3362 or using the mobile app.

The deadline to apply is April 25.
