Potholes are problem this time of year in Kentucky.

According to AAA, pothole season is in full swing. Natasha Lacy is the public information officer for the state Transportation Cabinet’s District 7, which maintains more than 56-hundred miles of roads across 12 central Kentucky counties.

“Potholes form by water seeping into tiny cracks in the pavement, and due to freezing and thawing, the volume of traffic salting and plowing those tiny cracks then become large holes that have to be remedied and filled.”

This week the cabinet issued a news release asking motorists to pay attention to roadways – and the crews fixing them.

“In between their inclement weather events, they're always filling potholes and working on shoulders and curbs and, course, cleaning drainage boxes, too for safety.”

To report a pothole, you can call your local government or the Transportation Cabinet at 1-800-PATCH-IT.
