Kentuckians impacted by the recent flooding and winter storms are getting some help with their taxes. During a press conference, Governor Beshear explained what is happening in regards to taxes.
“We're also announcing the Kentucky Department of Revenue will provide tax relief for businesses and individuals in the state of the Kentucky affected by severe storms, straight line winds, flooding and landslides that began on February 14th 2025. This relief is an extension of your time to file.”
The governor said some tax payers are going to have more time to file.
“Tax payers whose filing deadline is on or after February 14th 2025 until November 3rd 2025, that are looking to file Kentucky income taxes and submit tax payments for individual income, corporate income tax or other taxes, will have extra time.”
The Internal Revenue Service is also providing this relief for federal taxes.
It is possible for an affected taxpayer receives a late filing or late payment penalty notice from the IRS. If the original filing, payment or deposit due date that falls within the postponement period, the taxpayer should call the telephone number on the notice to have the IRS abate the penalty.
