Philanthropic donation made to bolster Kentucky flood recovery efforts

A $250,000 donation from health insurance company Humana is going toward flood recovery in eastern Kentucky.

Of that money, $150,000 will be donated to the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky. The foundation will use the money to help rebuild communities in the region.

The other $100,000 will be donated to the state’s flood relief fund. That’s meant to help meet the basic needs of flood victims and locals. That includes food, shelter, water and medical care.

Ten eastern Kentucky counties were approved for public and individual assistance Monday afternoon by the federal government. State officials have reported 22 deaths as a result of floods and winter weather through last week.

Individual donations can also be made to both funds. The Team Kentucky Storm Relief Fund is accepting donations here. The Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky is accepting donations here.
