Hundreds of victims of last weekend’s floods are staying, for free, in lodges at Kentucky state parks. One of those is Jenny Wiley, in Floyd County. That’s where Ronald Fletcher, his wife and three children are. He said they left their Hueyville home Saturday and stayed in a motel that evening. Since then, they’ve been in a room at the state park lodge – getting in and out by boat.
“These guys are really great out here. Jenny Wiley, they've done everything they can do. They're giving us breakfast, lunch and dinner. it's good that our community and our upper, higher people like our governor and people like that have given us flood victims they help they are giving us.”
Fletcher said they’re grateful for the friendly staff, free lodging and meals, but the adults have jobs, and getting there and back isn’t easy.
“It's rough right now because my wife and both my kids work, and, you know, having to get boated in and out of here. My son, he's got a job that he just started, and he's got to be at work in Hazard at six o'clock; they don't boat out of here until six.”
Fletcher said his wife works a night shift and finishes after the boats return. A lodge employee said Wednesday that in addition to the 150 flood victims there, there’s a list of others waiting for rooms.
