Many Kentuckians may be done with winter, but it’s not done with us. Mark Jarvis is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Louisville, which covers the western, central and southern parts of the state. He says snow will begin falling in western Kentucky first, then move east.

“The snow will come down moderate to heavy at times, and current forecasts suggest of around three to six inches of snow will fall from roughly Henderson through Elizabethtown, over through Richmond and toward the Pikeville area.”

Christian Cassell is the lead meteorologist with the weather service’s Jackson office. He said snow should arrive early Tuesday evening in eastern and southeastern Kentucky and one to six inches of accumulation are expected. But that’s not all those in flood recovery mode will face.

“It's going to be very cold this week, and for those who are impacted by the flooding, displaced or don't have adequate housing, we are concerned about those folks and also with the cleanup efforts.”

Jarvis and Cassell say the snow will be followed by sub-freezing temperatures. Jarvis said some areas may drop below zero overnight Thursday.
