Kentucky’s unemployment rate has climbed to 5.2% as of last month. That’s according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics’ unemployment report.
That number is up by 0.9% compared to one year ago. It’s also 1.1% higher than the jobless rate across the U.S.
The center says that’s because more people are entering the state’s labor force. Because workers are entering the labor force faster than they’re finding jobs, the unemployment rate has also increased.
The report says the number of jobs in Kentucky has also increased. Employment has grown in eight of Kentucky’s major job sectors, especially in education, health services and construction.
Kentucky’s labor force includes 2,085,059 people as of last December. Of that number, 108,623 are unemployed and 1,976,436 are employed.
