After a brief hiccup earlier this week, the website for Kentucky’s medical marijuana program is up and running again. Sam Flynn is the executive director for Kentucky's Office of Medical Cannabis. He said cell phone numbers of some registered prescribers were initially listed, but they were replaced by office numbers and the site was up again the next day. One of its features helps patients find prescribers.

“You can enter your county, you can enter your city, you can enter your zip code, and search by you know, 25 miles from that location, 100 miles, etc., and find the practitioners nearest you. You can also sort by specialties.”

Senate Bill 47 was signed by Governor Beshear in March of last year. Since then, officials have worked to prepare ways for authorized growers, dispensers, prescribers and patients to participate. Flynn said they’re stepping up outreach efforts, including monthly webinars beginning January 15.

“We've already got 2,000 people signed up for the first one, and that'll provide them all the information they need to know about the medical cannabis program. We also have a patient guide on our website and very handy sort of one-pagers that will give people the high-level information they need to know.”

Flynn said they’re working with the General Assembly to increase the number of medical conditions for which people can be prescribed medical cannabis.
