Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman is part of a group of 32 AGs asking Congress to pass a bill that would improve online safety for children.
The Kids Online Safety Act would address what the group calls a mental health crisis linked to social media use. The letter was sent to multiple leaders of Congress, including Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell.
It would require social media platforms to automatically enable their strongest safety settings for children by default, allow users to disable certain features and algorithmic recommendations and give parents more tools to report dangerous or harmful behavior.
Coleman also filed a lawsuit against TikTok in October, accusing the platform of exploiting children. TikTok called the accusations “misleading” in response.
