Kentucky Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack introduced "Our Healthy Kentucky Home," a year-long initiative to promote healthier living habits, during Thursday's Team Kentucky Update.

The Beshear Administration has unveiled a new initiative called “Our Healthy Kentucky Home” aimed at helping Kentuckians take care better care of themselves. During the Team Kentucky Update Thursday, state Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack said the need for healthier living habits is obvious.

“Survey data from 2022 shows that among Kentuckians, 38 percent are obese, 26 percent do not engage in exercise out of work, 45 percent eat less than one fruit per day and another 20 percent eat less than one vegetable per day.”

Stack said the data also shows 17 percent of adult smoke cigarettes. Team Kentucky will release a monthly guide to help with exercise and dietary goals – and tips on spending more time with each other.

“Every month we will have a specific focus and provide additional education and encouragement for us to address important topics such as heart health, diabetes, cancer screening and prevention, mental health and more.”

Beshear praised Stack for his leadership during the pandemic, adding Stack’s goal is to help Kentuckians thrive, not just survive.
