A major lane switch on the Mountain Parkway in Wolfe County will begin Thursday and last into 2025, according to the state Transportation Cabinet.

What state Transportation Cabinet officials call a major lane switch on the Mountain Parkway begins this week. Parry Barrows is a spokeswoman for the parkway expansion project.

“The work will begin on Thursday, October 31 on Halloween, and this will be taking place in Wolfe County, from mile marker 49 to 56. Both eastbound and westbound traffic will shift over to newly constructed eastbound lanes.”

Barrows said construction will take several months, into 2025.

“Traffic will continue to still move through the area, and you should only expect any impacts or delays, maybe on the actual 31st when the switch is taking place.”

According to a news release, message boards, barricades, barrels and signs will alert motorists about the changes. In April, a project manager said due to uncertainties over state and federal funding, it’s unclear when the entire Mountain Parkway expansion project, which began a decade ago, will be finished.
