A total of four schools, camps and daycare centers in Kentucky reportedly received recent recall notices for food possibly contaminated with the bacteria causing listeria. One of those is New Beginnings Child Care and Preschool Center in Hazard. Their executive director is Jennifer Cornett.
“I received a phone call from a Gordon's representative, our representative, on Thursday the 10th, letting us know that we may have received contaminated chicken alfredo.”
Cornett said she immediately called her administrative assistant, who’s also the menu-planner.
“I said, ‘Did we serve that? Has it been on the menu?’ And she said, ‘Actually, it's on the menu for tomorrow.’ So we immediately decided we would switch up things. We went to the local Walmart. We've done cheeseburgers and fries for the kids that next day.”
Cornett said they threw away the chicken alfredo and will receive credit for it. A representative for the Knox County School District said they also received a recall notice October 10th and threw away the food in question before it was served.
