The Knox County Public School District is one of many in southeast Kentucky disrupted by the search for I-75 shooting suspect Joseph Couch. Knox County Public School District Communications Director Frank Shelton said classes were cancelled Monday and Tuesday and the district went to non-traditional instruction the rest of the week. He called it an unprecedented situation.
“What do you do when an entire community, entire region, that has hit pause on education because of one person?”
Shelton said students will be back in classes Monday – in near-lockdown mode, with beefed up security.
“Our school resource officers have been fully trained. Our local law enforcement will be at our schools. We have camera systems in every school, exterior and interior.”
Shelton said students will be able to move through their schools indoors, but there’ll be no recess on outdoor playgrounds.
