The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is putting money towards public housing for Kentucky veterans and their families.
Eleven public housing agencies across Kentucky will be getting $326,279 from the HUD.
That includes:
- Louisville Metro Housing Authority - $150,049
- Housing Authority of Lexington - $103,438
- Housing Authority of Newport - $11,174
- Georgetown Housing Authority - $3,193
- Pikeville Housing Authority - $5,747
- Pike County Housing Authority - $5,747
- Boone County Fiscal Court - $9,578
- Ashland Planning And CDA - $7,024
- Appalachian Foothills Housing Authority - $1,596
- Bowling Green Housing Authority - $11,174
- Kentucky Housing Corporation-State Agency - $17,559
The money comes as part of a national program called Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing. It helps with rental assistance programs, case management and other support systems.
A release from the HUD says agencies are encouraged to use the money to help bolster housing search assistance, landlord recruitment and landlord/tenant mediation.
The Department of Veterans Affairs says veteran homelessness increased by more than seven percent last year. More than 280,000 veterans live in Kentucky, according to the VA’s state branch.
