Kentuckians will gather in Frankfort to remember those who were lost during the COVID-19 pandemic. Wednesday marks the fourth anniversary of the beginning of the pandemic. Over the past four years, the illness has claimed the lives of more than 18-thousand Kentuckians.

Governor Andy Beshear said this pandemic was a reminder of how Kentuckians need to work together.

“We will recognize a day of compassion in the commonwealth. Together Kentucky has overcome so much with kindness and love, so we know together, there is nothing we can't overcome if we bring our compassion.”

The governor said speakers will focus part of the discussion on looking forward.

“We will remember what we have overcome while also looking forward and thinking about how we can move forward with that compassion. We look back at all those green lights people put out the show other people that they cared about them, even when they couldn't look them in the eye.”

Over the past four years, the illness has claimed the lives of over 18-thousand Kentuckians. The memorial will take place Wednesday at the COVID Memorial on the Capitol grounds at 1 PM.
