Kentucky’s annual tornado drill is scheduled for Wednesday morning, at 10:07 a.m.

Alarms from nearby outdoor sirens and ALERT-FM receivers are set to go off at that time, alongside the statewide Emergency Alert System on weather radios and local broadcast stations.

Jill Williams, Madison County Deputy Judge Executive, says says the drill is a good yearly reminder for Kentuckians.

“We want to make sure that people realize, ‘Hey, these are all the tools that you use.’” Williams said. “And those emergency alerts can really save your life and ensure that you take the proper shelter.

Williams says the drill is also a good time to practice a safety plan.

“At least kind of do what we would call a tabletop exercise within your business or organization,” Williams said. “Say ‘Hey, here's what we would do, the tornado warning is going off, we would go to this room, we'd go to this basement, we would activate these processes and protocols,’ because that's the purpose of the drill, right?”

Some cell phones may also trigger alerts, but only if they are set up through a third party app.
