Last week’s snowstorms and plunging temperatures led to shortages at the Kentucky Blood Center. That’s according to Eric Lindsey, their director of branding and marketing. Monday morning, he said the KBC has less than a day’s supply of O negative, A negative, B positive, and AB positive.
“Those two different weather systems that came in last week, you know, on Monday, led to a lot of cancellations. And then we had that other system that came through Thursday and Friday, and ended up canceling 14 drives that we had on the books, a lot of high school drives.”
Lindsey said 14 blood drives were cancelled last week – and would-be donors should know that every drop remains in Kentucky.
“When you donate with KBC, that donation is staying in state, so you go to 70 plus hospitals in Kentucky, anywhere from UK Healthcare to the entire Baptist Health Network, the entire St. Josephs network, we are your blood provider.”
The Kentucky Blood Center has eight donor centers around the state and conducts about 2,000 mobile drives annually.
