Four Central Kentucky college students were rescued from the Red River Gorge Monday. Officials say the group from Asbury University were camping, when they decided to climb up Courthouse Rock with no ropes.

Once they reached their destination, they were not able to get back down. During a Monday press conference, Governor Beshear said the wintry weather makes any situation more dangerous.

“Those four individuals are now safe, just make sure we're making good decisions over the next 48 hours, so we don't put anyone's life, our or others in danger.”

Governor Beshear said several groups were involved in the rescue.

“We would like the thank the KSP aircraft branch which sent a helicopter to get them out, REDSTAR Wilderness EMS, Powell County Search and Rescue and Wolfe County Search and Rescue, specifically on our helicopters.”

During severe weather, the Governor said Kentuckians need to use sound judgment to keep not only themselves, but first responders safe too.

All of the students were evaluated and are expected to be okay.
