A $50,000 grant from the Kentucky Association of Health Plans is going toward Floyd County’s St. Vincent Mission to help expand their facilities.

The organization helped victims with home repairs during the 2022 floods. The grant will help St. Vincent build a new warehouse, allowing them more storage for materials, as well as household supplies and clothing.

“I was candidly really taken by the place,” Kentucky Association of Health Plans CEO and President Tom Stephens said. “I think David has maybe 300 people that live there. It's a mining community. And these folks are just doing a tremendous amount with very little resources.”

Stephens said it’s important to him that these smaller organizations make a direct impact.

“There are some large charitable organizations that we work with, like the American Heart Association, everybody's heard of them. I know the job that they do,” Stephens said. “But one of the challenges I've been given in my role is to try to find organizations that can make a transformative difference.”

St. Vincent Mission says they’ll be able to repair 15 more houses a year once the warehouse is built.
