A new behavioral health facility and inpatient psychiatric hospital is open in Greenup County. Addiction Recovery Care’s Bellefonte Hospital and Recovery Center in Russell has 40 beds. Tim Hatfield is the president of marketing for Addiction Recovery Care’s hospital division. He said their patients aren’t just struggling with addiction.

“If you take a look at our numbers, in terms of residents that come to us, over 50% of our residents that present for addiction recovery care have one or two serious mental illnesses. So it only made sense that we had our own facility to take care of those folks.”

The Bellefonte Hospital and Recovery Center is on the campus of the former Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, which closed in 2020. Hatfield said last week’s opening is the first phase of the project.

“Phase two will be the opening our Addiction Recovery Center here at Bellefonte, which is currently under construction. And we're looking at early fall, open it up.”

Hatfield said that facility will have between 200 and 250 addiction recovery care beds.
