The Garrard County native is set to win the office over Michael Bowman, the Democratic nominee from Louisville.

Metcalf made a speech in his hometown of Lancaster after the election was called by both the Associated Press and the New York Times.

“I believe very much that what we’ve accomplished tonight will have the kind of impact that will lead other rural Kentuckians to declare for office and positions of leadership across this great Commonwealth of ours,”Metcalf said. “And without your assistance tonight, that would not have been possible.”

He’s one of the five Republicans to win each of the Commonwealth’s down-ballot state offices this election. Metcalf said he’d be willing to work with re-elected Democratic governor Andy Beshear after his speech.

“I said during the campaign that regardless of who the governor was, that I would be creative and collaborative with the Governor, working with him wherever we agree, and trying to iron out any differences that we have in order to realize the best interests of Kentuckians,” Metcalf said.

Metcalf will succeed Republican Allison Ball, who is projected to become the next state Auditor.
