The current race for governor in Kentucky features two candidates, incumbent Democrat Andy Beshear and Republican Attorney General Daniel Cameron. That’s not always been the case. The late Gatewood Galbraith ran five times for governor, twice as a third choice. Galbraith’s brother Tim was tailgating Saturday before the UK-EKU football game.
“He’d be relishing it today, you know, he’d be more in the spotlight today with the medical marijuana and that kind of thing, you know. He was well ahead of his time with that,” said Galbraith.
The youngest of seven children, Tim Galbraith said he never felt he was living in the shadow of his older brother. He remembers how Gatewood would leave family Christmas get togethers early.
“What we found out is he would go downtown and walk around and find the homeless people and give them money or give them something and that’s what he was doing with his time. Now, he was probably soliciting a vote at the same time, but he was out there. He loved to do that,” said Galbraith.
Gatewood Galbraith died in January of 2012.
