Joseph L. Lawson, of Nelson County, pleaded not guilty to criminal conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence in the 2015 disappearance of Crystal Rogers.

Thursday, a 32-year-old Joseph L. Lawson, also of Nelson County, pleaded not guilty to criminal conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence.

Eight years after the disappearance of a Nelson County woman, a man is behind bars, charged with her murder. Crystal Rogers disappeared eight years ago, and signs with her photo asking for information about the case began showing up shortly after she vanished. Peter Zubaty is the editor of The Kentucky Standard in Bardstown.

“There's one really big one right on the Bluegrass Parkway, where her car was found on July 4 weekend, 2015. And then there's another large one near the Nelson County Justice Center. “

Zubaty said there are other, smaller signs throughout the county. The murder of her father, Tommy Ballard, is also unsolved, as is that of a local law enforcement officer.

“That really kind of goes back 10 years, with the still unsolved murder of Bardstown Police Officer, Jason Ellis. A lot of people believe these are all connected.”
