Emergency dispatching agencies across the Commonwealth are about to see some new workers. It is one of the most pressing needs in public safety.
28 dispatchers from across the State have graduated from the Public Safety Dispatch Academy. The graduates received 164 hours of instruction over four weeks at Eastern Kentucky University.
Major training areas include identifying the role and responsibilities of the dispatcher, correct phone and radio procedures, and handling emergency and non-emergency calls. Participants are also trained in emergency medical dispatch protocols and the use of state and national criminal databases.
DOCJT in Richmond provides training for many law enforcement agencies excluding those in Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green, and the KSP. They each have independent academies.
