A Louisville Gas and Electric and Kentucky Utilities official said they are not asking customers to turn up their thermostats during the current heat wave. On Tuesday, Berea Municipal Utilities posted a message stating LGE/KU had declared an alert for the area. Daniel Lowry is a spokesman for LGE/KU.
“Well, we send out a, basically, and precautionary alert anytime that we have really hot days with forecasts and temperatures that meet a certain level.”
Berea Municipal Utilities’ Facebook post suggested customers turn their thermostats up a few degrees, limit their use of large heat-producing appliances and draw drapes and curtains. Lowry said those tips will save customers money on their electric bills – and his utility has changed its maintenance schedule.
“We suspend any unnecessary maintenance work that we may be doing on equipment, so that we are fully prepared just in case. But at this point, this alert just deals with forecast and temperature.”
Lowry said LGE-KU is meeting demand and isn’t calling on customers to take any specific actions. LGE/KU is a financial supporter of WEKU.
