The governors of Kentucky and Ohio met in Covington Thursday afternoon to announce the design team for the 3-point-6 billion Brent Spence Bridge project. Kokosing of Indiana and Walsh Construction of Chicago will work on cosmetic renovations to the Brent Spence Bridge and design a new bridge that will carry interstate traffic. Ohio Governor Mike Dewine and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear each praised the spirit of cooperation they say made the project possible.

“We're getting it done, because the great teams from Kentucky and Ohio that know what is possible. When folks from different political parties, different states, different levels of government, different sides of a river, all come together.”

The federal government is picking up nearly half the cost of the bridge corridor project, with Kentucky and Ohio paying the rest. Beshear said Kokosing proved its worth when emergency work on the Brent Spence Bridge was needed.

“In November of 2020, when a semi jackknifed and burst into flames on the Brent Spence, Kokosing was there to help us with that complex repair job that we got done faster than any of us thought was possible.”

Timelines for construction were not announced.
