Governor Andy Beshear and the state GOP chair traded barbs over filling two open seats on the state Board of Education.

At Governor Andy Beshear’s weekly news conference, he responded to Republicans’ demands that he fill two open seats on the state Board of Education by the end of the month. Beshear said he’ll interview a “highly recommended” person soon and that he doesn’t answer to either political party. In a letter to the governor, state GOP Chair Mac Brown wrote, “I’d be happy to send you a list of Republicans if you’re having trouble finding one.” According to an article in the Louisville Courier-Journal, at least one of the open seats must be filled by a Republican. Beshear is running for re-election in November against Republican Attorney General Daniel Cameron.
