Governor Beshear announced Monday that people receiving SNAP benefits in 31 counties will be able to replace food lost after the March 3rd storms. Beshear sought and received federal approval to restore the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits. Carrie Banahan is the deputy secretary for the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
“If they had a power outage of more than four hours, it allows them to replace food that might have spoiled, you know, when their refrigerators or freezers.”
Banahan said the SNAP debit cards of qualifying SNAP recipients will receive a partial recharge of sorts.
“What will happen is, they'll receive 40% of the replacement value of their February benefit.”
