Man charged with killing police officers in eastern Kentucky found dead at Pike County Detention Center

Lance Storz, 50, was found dead in a cell at the Pike County Detention Center in Kentucky on Tuesday.

The man charged with the death of three police officers in eastern Kentucky last year is dead.

50 year old Lance Storz was found after an apparent suicide in his cell at the Pike County Detention Center. This is where he was housed since being arrested on three murder charges. On June 30th 2022, law enforcement officials say Storz opened fire on officers serving a protective order at his home.

Floyd County Deputy William Petry and Prestonsburg Police Captain Ralph Frasure were killed. Prestonsburg officer Jacob Chaffins died the next day after being wounded. Four other officers were also wounded.

A K-9 officer was also killed in the shooting. Pikeville city police are investigating Storz’ death.
