The ties between the Commonwealth of Kentucky and an East Asian country have been put on full display at the Frankfort Capitol. It came Friday when Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Bi-khim Hsiao addressed the Kentucky Senate. In addition to the friendly relationship between the U.S. and Taiwan, Hsiao spoke about the agricultural trade connection to Kentucky.
“You know we are a small island about a third the size of Kentucky, but five times the population. So, you can imagine, we don’t have a lot or enough farmland to support the population of Taiwan.”
Hsiao said Taiwan is heavily dependent on good agricultural products from states like Kentucky. She said everything from corn and soybeans to fried chicken and bourbon has a big market in Taiwan.
She also told senators that Taiwan and Kentucky have an important relationship when it comes to the automotive business.
“Key components, technology chips, components feed into your auto industry while America also sells cars to Taiwan. So, we are force multipliers in our industry in our technology,” said Hsiao.
The Taiwan representative said the Taiwanese people and the people of the Commonwealth are warm and hospitable.
