The State Department for Public Health reports that someone who attended the revival at Asbury College February 18th had measles. Officials say anyone attending that day could be at risk.
Dr. Frank Romanelli of the University of Kentucky is an expert in infectious diseases. He says some people are far more susceptible to it than others.
“I'm susceptible if I haven't been vaccinated, or if I don't have a laboratory confirmed history of measles in the past. So that would be the first question I would ask myself.”
Kentucky’s Public Health Commissioner, Dr. Steven Stack, says people in the susceptible category who were at Asbury February 18th should quarantine for 21 days after that date.
Romanelli says people who are unvaccinated or don’t know if they’ve had measles should be aware of possible symptoms.
“Am I developing cough fever, runny nose, a new rash and so forth because it is highly infectious. It's transmitted airborne, and contact with droplets. So it's more infectious than COVID.”
Stack says the Asbury attendee with measles was unvaccinated.
