The House Veterans, Military Affairs, and Public Protection Committee has voted almost unanimously to prohibit local police from using tax dollars to implement a federal firearms or ammunition ban. There was one abstention Tuesday. Mount Vernon Bill Sponsor Josh Bray said the federal Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms agency regulation covers pistol braces.
“It’s a firearm accessory that might help somebody with a disability shoot a pistol if they don’t have a lot of hand stability,” said Bray.
Bray told his House colleagues the ATF is saying such accessorized firearms need to be registered or destroyed or face a possible felony charge.
Dry Ridge Representative Savannah Maddox asked Bray if the legislation covers all guns.
“Would this prohibit restrictions that are being pushed by the ATF in the future, anything in terms of what is often erroneously to by some as assault weapons? Asked Maddox.
“Absolutely” said Bray.
“Outstanding.” Responded Maddox.
Following the vote, Bray said he’s optimistic the bill will pass the House and Senate. Last session a similar bill failed to make it through the Senate. The GOP lawmaker said that’s probably due to time constraints
