The Kentucky Finance and Administration Cabinet says more than 2,500 people were double-charged by an online vendor last week for tax payments.

In a statement, the department says a technical glitch in the online payment portal caused more than 7,800 electronic tax payments to be duplicated. More than two-thirds of them were voided before processing, but 2,526 people were double-charged.

According to the statement, the double charges were reversed the next day, and the cabinet has directed Kentucky Interactive, the vendor managing online payments, to figure out what happened and make sure it doesn’t happen again.

The statement also says Kentucky Interactive will cover related overdraft charges.
