More money is pouring into eastern Kentucky to help with the rebuilding and recovery from July’s deadly floods.
Over $4.1 million dollars from the Eastern Kentucky SAFE Fund is being distributed throughout the region. The money will be used by communities and public organizations.
During his Team Kentucky briefing, Governor Andy Beshear said some of the money will be used to match FEMA contributions.
“$2.5 million dollars to the city of Hazard, to help ease financial strain. That’s to help them with the costs they have incurred in cleaning up and rebuilding. $26,000 is going to the city of Paintsville to fund a required FEMA match that they have, $130,000 going to Paintsville Utilities to support their FEMA match,” said Beshear.
The Governor said the rest will go to Pike County.
“Nearly $1.5-million dollars to the Pike County Fiscal Court to support the non-federal required match that they have. Thus far we have issued $8.5 million dollars from that fund.”
Governor Beshear said the SAFE fund started with $213-million dollars that was appropriated for flood recovery from the state legislature.
He said the giving of these funds would be on-going and he expects more applications to come from communities hit by the flood.
