Some SBA loan centers in Eastern KY closing

U.S. Small Business Administration

As federal agencies respond to other disasters, the Small Business Administration is closing some help centers in eastern Kentucky. Business Recovery Centers are no longer open in Clay, Perry and Pike counties. Two centers remain open this month.

Tauheedah Mateen is a Public Affairs Specialist for SBA Office of Disaster Assistance.

“The deadline is fast approaching for physical damages of October 28th. Business owners have until May 1st 2023 to apply for working capital needs. So please make sure that you submit those applications as soon as possible,” said Mateen.

Mateen added that those in the process of applying should stay in contact with the SBA and report any address or contact changes that may occur.

Mateen said centers will remain open in Knott and Letcher counties for anyone who needs help.

“Even though they’re called Business Recovery Centers, any SBA applicant can stop in to an SBA Business Recovery Center be it a renter, be it a nonprofit, be it a homeowner,” said Mateen.

Mateen said anyone referred to the SBA by FEMA should register with them, even if they don’t want a loan, to be considered for more assistance.

The help center in Knott County is located in Hindman City Hall. The center in Letcher County is at 229 East Main Street.

The SBA has approved more than $52 million for flood survivors in eastern Kentucky.
