An eastern Kentucky county got a fiscal boost to help pay for needed projects. Governor Beshear traveled to Lawrence County Monday and presented officials with a check for 2-point-4 million dollars for infrastructure projects. These include improvements to two local fire stations.
Vince Doty is the assistant judge executive in Lawrence County. He says a large portion of the funds will go to help with some residents have access to water.
“So, the governor provided us with a grant for 860-thousand dollars and that will be for water line extensions and that will serve 58 new residents. I will say some of these residents have been without water for over a year.”
He said another portion of the funds will be used for the new fire house.
“In 2013 Blaine lost their fire department due to a fire. They have been using, just a building that one of the residents out there had loaned them to store their equipment in and use temporarily as a fire department. Now they will be able to build a new fire department with these funds.”
Doty said the wells these residents had been using either dried up or collapsed. There is also money to construct a new sidewalk for Louisa Middle School.
The funds are a combination of Transportation Alternative Program, Community Block Development and Cleaner Water Program funds.
