Flood impacted landscape can mean periodic power outages in eastern Kentucky

Stu Johnson

It’s been more than a week since utility crews got the power back on for the region hit by widespread flooding. That’s not to say the additional loss of power won’t still occur in these eastern Kentucky areas. The Kentucky Power outage map early Monday showed more than 200 customers without electricity. Cindy Wiseman is with Kentucky Power. She said that’s to be expected.

“After we completed the bulk of the restoration, we did a reassessment of our circuits and looked for other issues like loose or hanging tree limbs to try to mitigate some of these other outages that we will probably see over the coming weeks,” said Wiseman.

Wiseman said customers can contact the power company to close out their accounts since it may take months to re-establish housing.

“That will be quite helpful because we know that people if they relocate into the same spot, will take some time, maybe months before they are able to do that. So, we’re working with customers as closely as we can on those types of situations,” said Wiseman.

The utility spokeswoman said Kentucky Power can also set up temporary service when rebuilding occurs.
