State asks residents near Panbowl Lake in eastern Kentucky to leave their homes

A large number of residents in an area of eastern Kentucky are being asked to leave their homes. It comes due to flooding and its potential impact on a nearby lake.

Officials with the State Division of Water have recommended that homes and businesses in the floodplain of Panbowl Lake in Jackson be evacuated. The suggestion is made out of an abundance of caution. A muddy discharge observed at the Panbowl Lake dam combined with rising waters of the north fork of the Kentucky River prompted the recommendation.

Records indicate that about 110 homes, 13 businesses, two churches, a school, and a hospital could be impacted by flooding. In addition, Kentucky 15 was closed within the city limits of Jackson.
