Kentucky’s ban on abortions after 15 weeks can now be enforced. Last week U.S. District Judge Rebecca Grady Jennings lifted the injunction against part of House Bill 3.

This means the state can enforce this portion of the law. Another portion bans the procedure after six weeks remains under a legal challenge.

Rebecca Gibron is the CEO of Planned Parenthood Great Northwest, Hawai’i, Alaska, Indiana, and Kentucky. She said both bans are dangerous to Kentuckians.

“They’re cruel, and they’re just plain wrong. We believe your body is your own. Everyone deserves the right to control their own body, their life, and their future. Right now, I think we’re really headed for a public health crisis,” Gibron said.

She said the struggle for reproductive rights in Kentucky is far from over.

“We’re fighting with everything we’ve got to ensure abortion access in Kentucky for Kentuckians, so they can have the full range of reproductive care that they need.”

Addia Wuchner is the executive director of Kentucky Right to Life. In an interview with WEKU News, she said the ruling by Jennings is encouraging because other judges should allow the abortion restrictions to stand.

A ban on the procedure after six weeks remains under a legal challenge in state court.
