Some 20 business leaders from companies of various sizes have completed the “Fair Chance Academy.” The program focused on hiring those who have participated in recovery programs.

The Kentucky Chamber Foundation’s academy is one effort aimed at addressing workforce challenges by hiring people looking for a second chance. Participating businesses will spend the next three months implementing what they’ve learned.

Kentucky Chamber Foundation Senior Vice President Beth Davisson said the Fair Chance Academy teaches employers how to recruit, hire, and retain individuals with histories of substance use. Davisson added it gives them a fair chance to rebuild their lives.

The inaugural group of 20 academy participants included those working in manufacturing, health care, and agriculture.
