The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to decide any day on a case that could overturn Roe V. Wade. This has healthcare and legal experts watching closely as this decision will impact millions of women. The American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky is already preparing should Roe be overturned. ACLU spokesperson Angela Cooper said there is not much they can do should the decision go that way.
“What the ACLU of Kentucky will be doing is continuing to support grassroots organizations who fund abortion and try to help the people of Kentucky get the reproductive help they need elsewhere.”
She said one of the groups they’re currently working with is called “Protect Kentucky Access.”
“So we’re working with those folks now and of course we’re looking at other organizations like A Fund, Kentucky Health Justice Network, Sister Song and those grassroots organizations who fund abortions, who work to protect reproductive care. We’re trying to lift up their work and funnel as many resources in their direction as we can.”
In 2019 the GOP-majority General Assembly in Kentucky passed a “trigger law” that would block all access to abortion should Roe V. Wade be overturned. If that happens, the state law banning abortion would go into effect immediately.
