Members of the Kentucky House are still waiting for the state Senate to move on their budget. House members passed their version of the budget in record time last month. The state constitution calls for the House to take up the funding of state services first. Traditionally, the vote in the House doesn’t happen until much later in the legislative session. The House budget has been in the hands of the Kentucky Senate for four weeks. Senate Budget Committee Chair Chris McDaniel said it will be March before his chamber takes up the matter.
“Just trying to break down and understand what it is we’ve got exactly. So, we’ve got a couple more weeks until we’re probably ready to roll anything out. But, we’re just really trying to digest a lot of information."
McDaniel said the Senate has the House budget and the governor’s recommendations in hand. The northern Kentucky lawmaker noted due consideration will be given to both.
