Kentucky is participating in a program to expand mental health services. The Commonwealth is one of only ten states taking part. Four community mental health clinics across Kentucky are involved in the federal initiative aimed at expanding connection to behavioral, mental health care along with other medical services. Julie Gosky is directing the program with New Vista. She said a “no wrong door” policy has been enacted at the Central Kentucky agency.
“If you come and you think you need a primary care provider, we’re going to hook you up with a primary care provider. If you come here and say ‘I’m depressed and I think I need counseling, you know we’re going to hook you up with a therapist and maybe a psychiatrist, if you need medication,” said Gosky.
Gosky noted the pilot program began in early January. She said primary care providers are being added currently.
The other three centers participating in the federal demonstration program are in Louisville, Northern Kentucky, and Northeast Kentucky.
