Three central Kentucky counties are getting some funding to help with their water and sewer systems. Madison, Garrard, and Estill counties received a total over just over $2.7-million dollars from the governor’s office. Donnie Watson is the judge executive of Estill County. He said the money will help take care of an old problem.
“We have an aging water line supplying water across the river to district one, which supplies the whole south side of Estill County. If we had a catastrophic failure of that water line, the entire south side of the county would be without water.”
Watson said the money will be used to replace that line.
“It’s got asbestos, it’s made out of asbestos and concrete. Most everyone knows asbestos is not good for the environment and that will get all of that and run a new sewer line and do away with the old sewer line.”
He said Estill County is getting just over $518,000 for the work they need to do. The money comes from the Better Kentucky Plan’s “Cleaner Water Program.” The $2.7-million dollars will be spread over two cities and five water utilities in the three counties.
