Kentuckians can support victims of domestic violence while stocking up for Super Bowl Sunday. Kentucky first lady Britainy Beshear is teaming up with the Kentucky Coalition Against Domestic Violence and grocery stores across the Commonwealth for the annual Shop and Share event. This is an effort to collect items domestic violence shelters need. Beshear said domestic violence could happen to anyone.
“Sadly, domestic violence remains a serious threat to the life and safety of many Kentuckians. It’s a crime without boundaries, affecting children and adults from all walks of life. It does not discriminate based on race, gender or economic class.”
She also said this is a bigger problem than people might think.
“Over 45% of women and over 35% of men in Kentucky will experience intimate partner violence in their lifetimes. While these statistics are troubling, we can all work together to end these crimes and lend support to survivors.”
The Shop and Share event will take place Saturday February 12th from 9AM until 5PM. Participating grocery stores include Kroger and select Food City, Super Dollar, IGA and Save-a-Lot locations. Those looking to help can purchase an item on a list and then drop it in the collection sit at the store. Donations will be taken to 15 regional shelters around Kentucky.
