It looks like much of the Commonwealth was spared the worst of the winter storm. Western portions of Kentucky did see heavy ice and freezing conditions. Much of eastern Kentucky saw heavy rainfall with some freezing happening today. Anthony Richey is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Jackson. He said people need to be patient before trying to get out.
“It’s going to be extremely cold the next couple of days. We’re expecting temperatures to fall down into the teens tonight. Probably only going to see highs on Saturday getting into the upper 20’s to lower 30’s for eastern Kentucky and then it’s going to get really cold again.”
Richey said there is some good news later this weekend.
“It should start warming up significantly on Sunday and we should see a trend of warmer temperatures going after that. Next couple nights, it’s going to be extremely cold, Saturday will be extremely cold.”
Road crews are working to keep roads clear. Motorists are encouraged to stay off the roads and to use extreme caution if they must travel.
