Governor Beshear has declared a state of emergency ahead of the upcoming winter storm which is expected to bring heavy rain, freezing rain, snow, and ice. The governor has ordered state offices to be closed today to help keep people off the roads. He said Kentuckians need to take this storm seriously.
“If everything holds to where it is right now, this is the real deal. It is dangerous. People need to be prepared. Need to be prepared, especially, to stay off the roads and potentially be ready to deal with the emergency for the next several days.”
The governor has also issued an executive order to protect Kentuckians from price gouging.
“That will prevent people from hiking up the cost of gasoline, food and other household items. This order activates state laws that prohibit gouging and if it happens, Kentuckians should contact the attorney general’s office,” Beshear said.
Much of the Commonwealth is under a winter weather warning. Parts of central and eastern Kentucky are under a flood watch through late Thursday. in addition to the snow and ice, up to three and half inches of rain is expected.
State Police, Department of Transportation Cabinet and the Kentucky National Guard are being prepositioned to help on heavily traveled roadways. Kentuckians are being urged to stay off the roads if possible.
