Eastern Kentucky roads are expected to see some much-needed improvements. The governor’s office has announced that Kentucky will receive over 13-point five million dollars to improve roads in the eastern portion of the state. Gov. Beshear said this money is the most recent addition to funds the state has available for roads.

“The Infrastructure Act adds on top of what is already a healthy transportation cabinet budget this year. I think it’s more than 170 million dollars more in roads and bridges that we’ll be able to do because of the Infrastructure Act, even before these dollars,” the governor said.

The Gov. Beshear would like to see the new money used to make eastern Kentucky roads safer.

“We’re in the top ten for the most dangerous rural roads in America. We lose far too many of our family members on them. My priority on that 13-plus million dollars, again, with whatever guardrails the federal government puts in place, is where can we make the biggest and most impact from a safety standpoint,” he said.

The money comes from U.S. Department of Transportation, and the Appalachian Regional Commission allocates the funds in accordance with the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act.
